Ninth-Year Head Coach Gave Bills Mafia Rave Reviews

It’s been more than 750 days since the Buffalo Bills lost a true home game.

The last time the Bills lost on their home field was a 24-22 defeat to the Denver Broncos on November 13, 2023 — just the second loss in Buffalo’s last 54 home games spanning the last three-plus seasons.

The team has said several times before it owes a lot of its success on its home field to its dedicated fans base, affectionately knowns as Bills Mafia.

Highmark Stadium is one of the toughest road venues in the NFL, and Buffalo’s home-field advantage is something the team has come to feed off of. Ahead of the Bills’ Week 4 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, head coach Sean McDermott sounded off on exactly how much his home fans mean to the team.

“We take a lot of pride in defending our dirt,” McDermott told reporters on Wednesday. “There’s really no other way to say it, and these guys put a lot of time and blood, sweat and tears into their jobs every day and their family sacrifice. Playing well at home is a big part of that. Defending what we take a lot of pride in, which is our fanbase and how hard we work.

“Let’s also be honest, our fans create an environment. That 12th man is real, and we’ll need them again this week. This offense we’re going to play runs a lot of no-huddle, and I just watched them try to get that done against Seattle, and I know our fans are the best in the NFL for a reason.”

Through the first three games of the season, the Bills are undefeated and in the driver’s seat in the AFC East.

Perhaps the best example of feeding off the home-field advantage was seen in the Bills’ 41-40 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.

Buffalo was trailing 34-19 heading into the fourth quarter, but the team reeled off three touchdown drives on its first four possessions of the frame, and Josh Allen led a nine-play, 66-yard drive that ended with a 32-yard Matt Prater game-winning field goal as time expired.
