It didn’t take the Buffalo Bills long to find the scoreboard in their Week 4 matchup Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
In fact, it took them just seven plays.
Quarterback Josh Allen was 3 of 3 on Buffalo’s opening drive, connecting with receivers Joshua Palmer, Curtis Samuel, and Khalil Shakir for 66 yards and a touchdown to jump out to an early 7-0 lead.
But the touchdown pass was the highlight of the drive.
Allen fired off a quick pass to Shakir, who was waiting around the line of scrimmage and broke out of a tackle near the first-down like before taking off like he was shot out of a cannon and racing 43 yards to the end zone.
It was Shakir’s second touchdown of the season, and it was the fifth-longest play of Shakir’s career. He also surpassed Keon Coleman as Buffalo’s leading receiver with 164 yards receiving.
Shakir also recorded more yards on his long touchdown grab than he had in Week 2 against the New York Jets (12), and nearly as much as he had in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins (45).
It also marked the fourth straight game the Bills scored a touchdown on their opening drive — a feat they’re the only team in the NFL to accomplish this season.
Buffalo answered with a touchdown on its second drive as well, marching 66 yards in seven plays, capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run by running back James Cook. On that drive, Coleman hauled in two catches for 37 yards, taking back his crown as the team’s leading receiver from Shakir (188 yards).
