The Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints have no connection whatsoever. They not only reside in different divisions, but they aren't even in the same conference and face each other just once every four years as a result.
In fact, the last time the Bills hosted the Saints in Buffalo was all the way back in 2017, when New Orleans hammered the Bills, 47-10. For some perspective, Josh Allen was still at Wyoming at that time.
However, Buffalo offensive lineman Dion Dawkins still vividly remembers the defeat, and he plans on using that as fuel as the Saints return to Highmark Stadium this Sunday.
“We lost to them, we lost to the Saints, right? I think the last time they played here, if I’m correct,” Dawkins told reporters. “I don’t forget stuff like that. Not that that’s about to make us play harder, but that’s in our heads, right. Regardless of the last names that changed, the logo is still the same. The last time they came to our home field, they beat us. Right? It’s time for us to restamp that and let that be a win, you know. But that’s the mindset, respect our opponents, but just know that we play a game, and we want to win just as bad as they do. They beat us last time, let’s try our best to beat them this time.”
Dawkins has made four straight Pro Bowls and didn't reach his level of success without an extra edge, so it's not surprising that he has placed a target on the Saints' backs going into Week 4. It also might be just a strategy for Dawkins to stay motivated, because New Orleans is clearly not a contender and shouldn't have any business beating the Bills.
Nevertheless, this adds an interesting wrinkle into what otherwise seemed like a relatively tame game. Let's be honest: no one outside of New Orleans is picking the Saints to win this game, and most fans in the Big Easy would probably even agree that their team doesn't stand much of a chance.
The Bills have gotten off to a 3-0 start this season. The Saints, meanwhile, are winless.
