When the Buffalo Bills signed Joey Bosa during the offseason, the big question surrounding the 30-year-old was whether he could stay healthy for a full season. And though he's had some small injuries, nothing has kept him being on the field during a game so far this year.
Until now.
Bosa left Sunday's 26-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with around 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter. He was rushing against Steelers right tackle Troy Fautanu, and went down to the ground. After that play, he left the game and wouldn't return.
On Monday, head coach Sean McDermott said that he was dealing with a hamstring injury. Regarding any sort of timetable, McDermott said the team will "see how it goes" during the week.
The Bills are preparing for yet another important game in their race to stay in the AFC playoffs against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals come to town with Joe Burrow back and feeling confident after beating Baltimore on Thanksgiving night.
Should Bosa have to miss a game with what is likely a strain of some sort, the Bills will be without one of their most successful pass rushers on the season. In 12 games this season, Bosa leads the team in sacks (5), tackles for loss (8), and forced fumbles (5). His five forced fumbles are not only tops in the league this year, but it also ties a franchise record for most in a season. He's also top 10 in quarterback hits (11).
Losing Bosa for any amount of time would be painful for a Bills team that's only a game up on 8th seed Houston in the AFC. But, for a team with Super Bowl aspirations, keeping him out of the lineup for a game might be the best option towards keeping him on the field come January.
Of course, that all depends on how the week goes at practice. Bosa's likely to be a DNP on Wednesday, which has been normal for him all season, so the first real update should on Thursday.
Buffalo and Cincinnati are scheduled to kickoff at 1pm on December 7 on FOX.
