Though he retired from the NFL earlier this year, Mitch Morse still has his share of fans in Buffalo, New York.
The 33-year-old former offensive lineman had a memorable five-year run with the Bills from 2019 to 2023 that netted his lone Pro Bowl appearance back in 2022.
Morse played one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024 before calling it a career in March of this year, and though he’s no longer in the league, that doesn’t mean that he won’t be spotted at an NFL stadium in the near future.
The Bills announced on Thursday that they would be honoring Morse as the honorary Legend of the Game for Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the New Orleans Saints at Highmark Stadium.
“I can't quantify the excitement level or what this means to me,” Morse said, via the Bills’ official website. “I never thought I'd ever have an experience like this or be able to be asked to do something like this. It's an immense privilege, and it's not lost upon me that a lot of folks have been in my position and not been asked to do this.”
During his 10-year NFL career, Morse started all 143 games he appeared in, and played all 9,723 of his offensive snaps at center, according to Pro Football Focus.
In stints with the Bills, Jaguars, and Chiefs, Morse allowed 174 pressures, 145 hurries, 14 QB hits and just 15 sacks, per PFF. He only allowed more than three sacks one time, he had three seasons of zero sacks allowed, and he allowed just one sack in three others.
“Buffalo means the world to me,” Morse added. “They were such impressionable years on our young family. We had both of our kids there…I'm excited to see what Buffalo means to me now as I come back as a former player.”
Six offensive lineman from Morse’s final season with the Bills are still on the roster — tackles Dion Dawkins, Ryan Van Denmark, and Spencer Brown, plus guards David Edwards, Connor McGovern, and Cyrus O’Torrence.
Center Ryan Bates is the only member of that 2023 Bills’ offensive line not still with the team.
