Reigning MVP Hinted to Finding Personal Success After Jettisoning Diva WR

It’s been nearly two years since Stefon Diggs last played for the Buffalo Bills.

And yet, there’s some players and fans who still hold a grudge over the way the former All-Pro wideout left the team.

Diggs had a memorable four-year run in Buffalo, totaling 445 catches, 5,372 yards, and 37 touchdowns along with two All-Pro selections and four Pro Bowls. But what most fans likely remember about that time is the tension between Diggs and quarterback Josh Allen that ultimately led to the former’s exit.

The Bills traded Diggs to the Houston Texans back in 024 for a second-round pick in a deal that seemingly came out of left field.

It also happened during a time when Diggs was throwing subtle jabs at Allen through the media, leaving head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane to answer questions about a possible locker room rift.

While enough time has passed that the mention of Diggs’ name likely doesn’t fill most Bills fans with a fiery rage anymore, there are moments when some can’t help but wonder if players still take subtle shots at him.

One of those instances came up during Allen’s media availability on Thursday when he answered honestly about what’s helped him play without turning the ball over. His answer had some thinking he subtly threw Diggs under the bus.

“I think if you look at it from a few different scopes, you have (offensive coordinator) Joe Brady, you have James Cook, and you have our offensive line, then you have our skill guys,” Allen said, via 13 WHAM’s Dan Fetes.

“…That whole ‘everybody eats’ mentality that Joe has kind of allowed us to take over has allowed me to be free, not worry about so much where the ball is going.”

Though the Bills didn’t have a true No. 1 receiver last year, three different receivers had 50 or more targets, while Amari Cooper and Curtis Samuel had 32 and 46 targets, respectively.

Through three games this season, three different WRs have double-digit targets, while 11 different players have logged at least one reception.
