The Denver Broncos narrowly escaped with an ugly 13-11 win over the winless New York Jets on Sunday in Week 6.

The London matchup was a defensive battle with very little offense.

The Denver defense recorded nine sacks against quarterback Justin Fields and held him to just 45 passing yards and 31 rushing yards. He had -10 net passing yards on the day.

Broncos star cornerback Pat Surtain II locked down receiver Garrett Wilson and held him to just three catches for 13 yards.

While New York’s offense was a mess in shambles the whole game, Denver’s offense wasn’t much better.

Quarterback Bo Nix completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown as well as 24 rushing yards on five carries. Running back J.K. Dobbins had just 40 yards on 14 carries against a Jets defense that has been susceptible to the run this season.

The lone Broncos touchdown was caught by tight end Nate Adkins as time expired in the first quarter to take a 10-6 lead.

The Jets would hit a field goal to cut the deficit to one point before an offensive holding in the end zone by Denver resulted in a safety. The Jets took an 11-10 lead into the fourth quarter before kicker Will Lutz knocked in the game-winner with five minutes left.

It wasn’t pretty by any means, but a win is a win.

“Let them count the ways on the flight home from London,” ESPN’s Jeff Legwold wrote Sunday. “The Broncos fumbled on their first possession, had a cascade of penalties on offense -- including a holding penalty in their own end zone that resulted in a third-quarter safety -- and allowed two massive kickoff returns, including a 72-yarder. Add it all up and it almost negated one of the best defensive performances in the league this season that included nine sacks and holding the Jets to minus-11 passing yards. Broncos coach Sean Payton said he believed the offense would find its identity soon, but they certainly didn't find it in north London.”

The Broncos will host the feisty, new look New York Giants in Week 7. The Giants have looked like a completely different team with rookie Jaxson Dart under center and are coming off a win against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
