The Denver Broncos made a great decision when they decided to bring in veteran running back J.K. Dobbins to lead the backfield.

Dobbins, 26, has been in the National Football League since 2020 when he broke in with the Baltimore Ravens. He played 15 games and rushed for 805 yards on 134 carries with nine touchdowns. He also caught 18 passes for 120 yards.

In the final preseason game leading up to the 2021 season, Dobbins suffered a torn ACL that ended his season. In 2022, he played in only eight games but put up solid numbers.

He had 92 carries for 520 yards and two touchdowns as well as seven receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.

In the 2023 season opener against the Houston Texans, Dobbins tore his Achilles, effectively ending his season. He logged eight carries for 22 yards and a touchdown as well as two catches for 15 yards prior to his departure.

2024 was a major bounce back year for Dobbins, playing 13 games for the Los Angeles Chargers and logging 195 carries for 905 yards and nine touchdowns with 32 receptions for 153 yards.

Dobbins then signed with the Broncos this offseason and has been on a tear. He has never been a receiving back, but he doesn’t need to be. His explosiveness and elusiveness on the ground are enough to keep him on the field when healthy.

Dobbins spoke about the narrative that he’s injury-prone, stating he’s only had two major injuries in his career.

“Well, see, people say I have injury issues, but I don't,” Dobbins said to the media Thursday. “I've had two major injuries. That's it. It's not like I'm rolling ankles or -- it's not like I'm injury-prone. It's just the injuries that I've had have been unfortunate. ... There are two. That's only two, though. Injury-prone is like, 'Oh, you got this injury, that injury, that injury, that injury.' No, it's only two injuries, literally. And one took two years because it was my whole knee that got blown off.”

Dobbins has taken the confidence instilled in him from Denver and ran with it, literally. Through six games this season, Dobbins has 91 carries for 442 yards (seventh in NFL) and four touchdowns (tied-seventh) as well as six catches for 23 yards.

He is well on pace for his first 1,000 rushing yard season, with his projected total listed at 1,252 yards. If he can stay healthy, he will record the first 1,000 yard rushing season by a Bronco since Phillip Lindsay in 2019.
