Cleveland Browns rookie QB Dillon Gabriel returned to practice on Friday in a limited capacity as he continues working his way through the concussion protocol. However, the team is officially listing him as out for Sunday's matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders, as fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders' makes his first career start in relief of Gabriel.
His designation paves the way for Bailey Zappe to officially serve as the team's primary backup to Sanders'.
On a positive note, veteran tight end David Njoku ended the week with no designation despite battling through a knee injury throughout the week. He missed the first two days of practice because of the injury, but returned to the field Friday.
Njoku has been nursing a knee injury since the team's Week 6 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers and missed a game the following week. He's played in every other game for the Browns, though, and will do the same this weekend.
Meanwhile, star defensive end Myles Garrett is also listed as questionable for Cleveland after missing Friday's session due to an illness. Stefanski made it clear, however, that Garrett should be okay to play Sunday.
More good news came on Friday on the offensive line, with starting left tackle Cam Robinson avoiding any designation for Sunday, despite dealing with a knee injury. Opposite of him, Jack Conklin is also battling through a knee injury, but is listed as questionable.
Meanwhile, the team ruled defensive end Alex Wright out for Sunday due to a quad injury. Wright suffered the ailment during the team's Week 10 loss to the New York Jets. He also sat out last week's matchup with Baltimore with the injury and missed everyday of practice this week.
Joining Wright in being ruled out ahead of Sunday is wide receiver Jamari Thrash. The second-year wideout was a full participant at practice on Wednesday but popped up on the injury report one day later due to a foot injury. He didn't practice Friday either and now won't suit up Sunday. He was a healthy scratch for the Browns in the team's Week 12 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
