The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Detroit Lions in Week 6 after losing a heartbreaker to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football last week.
The Chiefs jumped out to a 14-point lead through the first quarter and a half but couldn’t overcome the Jaguars in the second half.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes played well, completing 29 of 41 passes for 318 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also added 60 yards and a touchdown on six carries, leading the team in rushing.
The Lions are susceptible to the pass, so expect the Chiefs to air it out and try to score through the air.
With receiver Xavier Worthy a little banged up from the Jaguars game, he may not be the top target for Mahomes this week.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton predicts receiver Hollywood Brown could be in for a large role against the Lions.
“You can get one more high-upside week out of Hollywood Brown before wide receiver Rashee Rice returns from a six-game suspension,” Moton wrote Thursday.
“In Week 5, Xavier Worthy was back in action, but he didn't provide explosive gains playing with a harness on his dislocated shoulder. The speedy wideout caught six passes for 42 yards and ran the ball for nine yards.
“As Worthy continues to recover, Brown is still the most appealing Kansas City Chiefs receiver in a plus matchup with the Detroit Lions, who are without their top two cornerbacks, Terrion Arnold (shoulder) and D.J. Reed (hamstring).
“The Lions are allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to wide receivers, and they've surrendered 10 passing touchdowns, tied for sixth-most across the league.”
Brown, 28, has been targeted 40 times through five weeks and has hauled in 26 receptions for 257 yards and one touchdown in his second season with Kansas City (first full season).
Brown is injury prone and hasn’t played a full season since 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens, but when he’s on the field, he is explosive.
His rapport with Mahomes is getting stronger by the day, and while Worthy is nursing injury and Rashee Rice not returning until next week, Brown figures to be a focal point of the offense against Detroit.
It’ll be tough for the Chiefs’ defense to stop the Lions’ offense, but the unit will need to cause chaos for the Chiefs to match what the Lions will do.
