The Kansas City Chiefs have leaped into the top three NFL teams in Bleacher Report’s Week 8 power rankings after a 31-0 win against their division rival Las Vegas Raiders. Moving from No. 9 to No. 3, the Chiefs have now cemented themselves as a legit contender once again.
“After a slow start, the Chiefs are rolling again. Mahomes can drop to pass, with multiple weapons to exploit,” the B/R NFL Staff wrote in a recent article. “[Rashee] Rice is tremendous after the catch. Xavier Worthy's field-tilting speed provides instant offense. Tyquan Thornton has shown so much improvement. Hollywood Brown brings a veteran presence among the wide receivers.”
The offense looked dangerous once again in Week 7. It was the first time this season that Mahomes had had all of his weapons available to him. Second-year receiver Rashee Rice retired to the field on Sunday for the first time this season after serving a six-game suspension to start 2025. He immediately made his presence felt, leading the team with 10 targets and scoring two touchdowns.
Tight end Travis Kelce led the offense with 54 receiving yards, but five other Chiefs players recorded at least 30 receiving yards. Mahomes spread the ball beautifully, once again showing what he’s capable of when he has a fully available offense. Mahomes finished the game with 286 passing yards and three touchdowns. He sits fourth in the NFL for passing yards through seven weeks with 1,800.
Kansas City’s defense was just as dominant on Sunday, holding the Raiders to under 100 total yards on the day. Defensive tackle Chris Jones recorded his second sack of the season while fellow tackle Jerry Tillery gobbled up a fumble on Sunday.
The defense limited the Raiders’ offense to just 3 first downs in the game, a testament to how in control Kansas City was even with the ball in the other team’s possession. The Raiders were held to just 3.2 yards per play and were forced to punt six times. The Chiefs had possession for over 42 minutes compared to the Raiders’ 18 minutes.
Week 7 was a convincing win for the Chiefs, and it should have been. The Raiders have been bad all season long, but the Chiefs went out and took care of business. You can only beat the team in front of you, and Kansas City did just that - so much so that they now rank third in the NFL.
