INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts have made several roster adjustments on Saturday heading into Sunday's contest with the Las Vegas Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Colts have signed cornerback Chris Lammons from their practice squad to the active roster, and replaced Lammons' spot on the practice squad by signing cornerback Cameron Mitchell to the group. The Colts also placed safety Daniel Scott on Injured Reserve with a knee injury.
The Colts elevated running back Ameer Abdullah and cornerback Mike Hilton to the active roster from the practice squad for Sunday. They'll revert to the practice squad after the game.
Lammons has been with the Colts since 2023, often on the practice squad, though he has been active for 19 games with them. Mitchell was a fifth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2023, who was just recently waived by the team.
Both Abdullah and Hilton are direct replacements for injured players, as Abdullah will likely fill the role of Tyler Goodson (groin) on special teams and potentially at running back if necessary. Goodson was injured in last week's loss to the Los Angeles Rams and hasn't practiced all week. He was ruled out of this game on Friday.
The Colts signed Abdullah to the practice squad on September 8. He's yet to be activated, but can contribute on offense and special teams. He's been known as an effective runner and pass-catcher out of the backfield throughout his 11-year career, and can also return kicks.
Hilton is filling in for Kenny Moore II (Achilles), just as he did last week. Moore was injured late in Week 3 in a win over the Tennessee Titans and has yet to play or practice. The Colts signed Hilton last week, and he was able to play over 50 snaps, also notching three tackles (one for loss) and a forced fumble.
This is now the second time the Colts have activated Hilton for a game. By league rules, practice squad players can only be activated for specific games three times in a season. After that, the team must officially sign them to the active roster in order to play them.
This is the third consecutive season that Scott has been on IR. He missed his first two seasons before they even begam with an ACL and Achilles injury, respectively. He was healthy this offseason, however, until coming down with the knee injury this week. It's not yet known whether this is for the season or if he'll be designated for return later.
These roster moves also give some indication as to whether Colts second-year wide receiver AD Mitchell will be active on Sunday or not. If the Colts made Mitchell inactive as a result of his costly mistakes in last week's loss, they would only have Michael Pittman Jr. and Ashton Dulin available as outside receivers, since Alec Pierce is out with a concussion. Josh Downs and Anthony Gould would be active, but are primarily slot receivers and don't necessarily factor into the scheme the Colts would like to execute. As a result, Mitchell is likely to be active. However, if the Colts still want to send a message, then Mitchell could take a back seat to Dulin.
