After suffering a slew of injuries to start the year, the Dallas Cowboys are slowly but surely getting players back to full health. Now, they just have to hope that it’s not too little too late.
DaRon Bland, Tyler Smith, and Tyler Guyton have all returned to game action while Shavon Revel, DaMarvion Overshown, and Cooper Beebe have their sights set on returning sooner rather than later. In the meantime, it would seem that the biggest name on the injury list is set to make his return this week.
After working on the field to rehab during practice last week, CeeDee Lamb has fully returned to practice as of Wednesday after missing the last three games, and per reports, is expected to play in the Cowboys' Week 7 divisional matchup against the Washington Commanders.
After recording back-to-back 100+ yard games to start the year, Lamb left the team’s Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears with a high ankle sprain. While that injury typically requires a rehab of four to six weeks, Lamb has beat those projections.
In his absence, George Pickens has taken the league by storm, recording a touchdown in five straight games and setting a career-high in scores with six on the year already. Ryan Flournoy has also gotten heavily involved, receiving 14 targets in the three games that Lamb missed.
The question then becomes how the roles shift in the offense now that Lamb is back. Pickens was originally brought in to draw more attention away from Lamb, but with how well the former played while the latter missed time, is this more of a 1A/1B situation?
Flournoy has looked promising and like a potential replacement for Jalen Tolbert moving forward, but will his development be stunted by the return of an All Pro pass catcher?
This isn’t to mention Jake Ferguson, who, after not catching a touchdown in 23 straight games, has reeled in four in three games. He did that while being targeted 19 times.
Inevitably, there will be a few hiccups as Lamb is worked back into the offense. Him and Pickens got very little time together and, while they’re both selfless and talented players, there will be a natural adjustment. The offense could look somewhat disjointed in the early goings of Week 7, if not the whole game.
But, once those early kinks are worked out, Dallas will have one of if not the best wide receiver duo in the league. Now, if only they could play defense as well.
