They don't ask how, just how many.
And for the Denver Broncos, 10 points was all they needed to beat the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday night, stealing a 10-7 victory to raise their record to 8-2 and tightening their grip on the AFC West division lead.
It wasn't pretty. Not at all. Denver quarterback Bo Nix was just 16-for-28 passing for 150 yards, and had two interceptions. The Broncos rushed for only 84 yards and finished with 11 penalties for 78 yards.
Thankfully their defense came to the rescue again. They had six sacks and the Raiders were just 4-for-15 on third down. Las Vegas scored a touchdown midway through the first quarter, and then never scored again. That's how impressive Denver's defense is. They have 46 sacks already through 10 games, the first time that's been done since 2000. They are chasing the all-time record of 72 sacks set in 1984 by the Chicago Bears.
They are the first NFL team to get to eight wins this season, but they also know they can't keep relying on the defense to win games like this. The offense needs to start contributing soon, as well.
Like, real soon.
"Yeah, it's cool that we're 8-2, but the defense is winning us the games, and we're not helping them. We're not doing them any justice," Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins told reporters after the game. "I feel bad the way we play on offense and the way they play on defense because they're doing so great and we're doing so bad.
"They're our brothers, too, and it just sucks because they're just out there so many plays, playing their butts off. We can't keep doing this to them."
Here's the game story from Broncos Roundtable writer Matt Wadleigh.
Broncos Squeak By Raiders In Ugly Thursday Night Game
Broncos claw out a nail-biting 10-7 victory over the Raiders, thanks to a late field goal and defensive grit in a low-scoring affair.
The Broncos has won seven straight games now, their longest winning streak since they started. the 2015 season 7-0. They scored on a Bo Nix pass to Tony Franklin with 2:41 to go in the second quarter. Will Lutz kicked a 32-yard field goal on the last play of the third quarter to provide the winning points.
A win is a win, but Nix knows that there is a lot to clean up.
"At some point, we've got to start moving the ball and scoring some points,'' said Nix, the Broncos' second-year quarterback. "Between penalties and sluggish football, we're just not playing very good. It starts with me. I've got to be better. We've got to find some juice.
"We have a tough, resilient team and the way our defense is playing, we're going to win a lot of games. But we need to play better on offense. They have a good front and got good pressure on us. They kept us off-balance and we could never break through on a good defense like that. There are plays to be had, and we've just got to find them.''

The Broncos host the Chiefs a week from Sunday in Denver is a game with will go a long way in determining a division champion. The Chiefs are off this week, so they'll come in well-rested as well.
There's still plenty of action this week to pay attention to in the AFC West. The Chargers are hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football as they try to stay close to the Broncos. The Chargers beat the Broncos 23-20 on Sept. 21 during Week 3 action.
