The Philadelphia Eagles' struggling offense has been a hot topic of discussion in recent weeks. It ranks 30th in the NFL as a whole, and the passing offense is second to last.
On top of that, running back Saquon Barkley — who led the league with 2,005 rushing yards last season — is averaging just 3.2 yards per carry through five games.
With the Eagles facing serious questions about their struggling aerial attack heading into last week, Philadelphia focused on throwing the football, resulting in Barkley getting just six carries.
Naturally, Barkley was asked about his lack of touches this week, and he is clearly growing tired of the subject.
“I don’t really know what you want,” Barkley said, via Zach Berman of The Athletic. “If I touch the ball too much sometimes, we’re not throwing enough. If we throw it too much and I only have nine touches — I’m not in the business of, what are we doing enough? I’m in the business of winning football games. We didn’t win the football game. With nine touches, we had the opportunity to win the football game still. We weren’t detailed enough. Too many mistakes, too many penalties.”
Barkley has totaled 267 yards and three touchdowns on the ground thus far in 2025, so he is almost certainly not even going to approach his 2024 production.
The Eagles have still managed to go 4-1 in spite of their offensive issues, but they didn't complete a single pass during the second half in Week 4, and this past Sunday, Philadelphia blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead in a loss to the Denver Broncos.
Clearly, there are problems here in spite of Philly's gaudy record, and you have to wonder how long the Eagles are going to last if this continues.
Philadelphia lost offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to the New Orleans Saints during the offseason and replaced him with passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo, who has definitely not gotten the job done thus far.
But is it really all on Patullo? Or are there deeper issues here? We will find out as the season progresses.
The Eagles will face the New York Giants this Thursday.
