The Philadelphia Eagles may very well the most peculiar team in the NFL right now. They got off to a 4-0 start and finally suffered their first loss of the season against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, and throughout the process, all sorts of problems have arisen.
Of course, the primary issue seems to be a disconnect between Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown, and Brown has made it very clear that he is frustrated. Whether it was a pointed social media post last week or Brown appearing to give up on a route in the Broncos loss, things don't exactly seem to be swell for Brown in Philadelphia right now.
Brown's discontent has fueled trade speculation surrounding the star wide receiver, who signed a three-year, $96 million extension with the Eagles — one that will take him through 2029 — last year.
But will Philly actually consider pulling the trigger and trading Brown before the Nov. 4 deadline? ESPN's Dan Graziano doesn't seem to think it will happen.
"The Eagles aren't trading Brown, and from what I understand he doesn't want them to trade him," Graziano wrote. "This is a team that won the Super Bowl eight months ago and knows how to weather early-season issues and come out on top. It might feel a little rough right now, but any time there has been a flicker of discontent around Brown, he has taken ownership of his frustrations and made it clear, internally and externally, that he's all about whatever it takes to help the team win."
While Brown did take responsibility earlier in the week, that didn't stop him from pulling up short on that aforementioned route on Sunday, and after the game, he simply called it "a miss."
The three-time Pro Bowler has logged 19 catches for 194 yards and a touchdown through five games, which aren't the types of numbers we have become accustomed to seeing Brown posting. He registered back-to-back 1,400-yard campaigns in his first two seasons with the Eagles in 2022 and 2023 and totaled 1,079 yards in 13 games last year, averaging 16.1 yards per catch.
Whatever the problem is, Philadelphia needs to figure it out, and fast. Philly ranks second-to-last in the NFL in passing offense, and Saquon Barkley had just six carries in Week 5. Something is clearly very wrong in the City of Brotherly Love.
