The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, falling to the Denver Broncos by a score of 21-17, a game in which they led by 14 points in the fourth quarter.
The same issues were prevalent for the Eagles in the defeat. Their offense is still not humming, and there seems to be an obvious disconnect between Jalen Hurts and his receivers. Not only that, but Saquon Barkley had just six carries in Week 5.
With the New York Giants looming in Week 6, Hurts, Barkley and A.J. Brown decided to make an important decision: hold a private meeting.
Jimmy Kempski of The Philly Voice has reported that the three offensive stars had a long, positive conversation on Monday, which seems appropriate given all the controversy surrounding Brown and the Eagles' passing game over the last couple of weeks.
By now, you know that Brown took to social media to express displeasure over his role following Philadelphia's Week 4 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brown logged just two catches for seven yards in the victory and clearly desired a larger role.
This past Sunday, the 28-year-old caught five passes for 43 yards, but he also appeared to give up on a deep-ball route that he simply called "a miss" after the game.
Brown's visible dissatisfaction has sparked trade speculation surrounding the three-time Pro Bowler, who signed a three-year, $96 million contract extension with Philly last year. The deal is slated to take Brown through 2029.
However, as of right now, it doesn't look like the Eagles have any plans to trade Brown, who has been a central focus of their offense ever since arriving via trade in 2022.
Brown has totaled 19 receptions for 194 yards and a touchdown through five games this season and is on pace to finish well short of 1,000 yards for the first time in his Philadelphia tenure. He posted consecutive 1,400-yard campaigns to begin his Philly career and then registered 1,079 yards in 13 games last season, averaging a hefty 16.1 yards per grab.
In spite of all of their offensive struggles, the Eagles are still 4-1, but there is only so much longer they can keep getting away with such a subpar aerial attack.
