When you think of the Philadelphia Eagles, you'll probably focus more on the offensive side of the ball, because that is where most of the big names are.
Jalen Hurts. Saquon Barkley. A.J. Brown. DeVonta Smith. Heck, even Lane Johnson and the offensive line are discussed heavily.
But you absolutely cannot forget about the Eagles' defense, which was paramount in their Super Bowl run last season and has also been the driving force behind the team's 4-0 start in 2025.
Perhaps most notably, Philadelphia is absolutely loaded in the secondary, especially in the form of cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
The Eagles drafted both players last year, taking Mitchell in the first round and DeJean one round later. DeJean of course famously returned an interception for a touchdown in the Super Bowl last February, but the duo is much more than just one flashy play.
In fact, Derrik Klassen of The Athletic heaped praise upon Mitchell and DeJean this week following their brilliant performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past Sunday.
"Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper Dejean screamed to the world in Week 4 that they definitively form the best young secondary pairing in the league," Klassen wrote. "... According to NextGenStats, Mayfield threw into a tight window on 35.0 percent of his attempts Sunday, the highest single-game mark by a quarterback this season. Mayfield is already more willing than most to push the envelope, against any opponent, but the Eagles' secondary completely forced him into that mode. ... There's just not another defensive back duo like Mitchell and DeJean right now."
Mitchell has logged 17 tackles and six passes defended thus far in 2025, with five of those pass breakups coming against the Buccaneers. Last year, he finished with 46 tackles and 12 passes defended.
Meanwhile, DeJean has already racked up 31 tackles through four contests this season, also posting three passes defended. He tallied 51 tackles, a forced fumble, a couple of fumble recoveries and six pass breakups during his rookie campaign.
Both youngsters could be on their way to respective Pro Bowl appearances soon.
