The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New York Giants by a score of 38-20 on Sunday afternoon as they continued to work toward righting the ship after a two-game rough patch.
The Eagles have now rebounded with back-to-back wins following two straight losses, and for the second consecutive week, Jalen Hurts looked very good, throwing four touchdown passes with no interceptions in the victory.
Last week in Philadelphia's win over the Minnesota Vikings, Hurts went 19-for-23 with 326 yards and three touchdowns, so it seems safe to say that the signal-caller has turned things around.
Hurts has been playing so well, actually, that former Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho mentioned his name in the MVP conversation.
Hurts has thrown for 1,167 yards, 15 touchdowns and one pick while completing 70.2 percent of his passes and posting a 114.4 passer rating on the year. Additionally, he has punched in five rushing scores, although the controversy surrounding the infamous "Tush Push" definitely takes some of the shine off his numbers on the ground.
Regardless, there is no question that Hurts should be in the MVP conversation right now. Philadelphia is now 6-2 on the campaign and sits in first place in the NFC East, so that helps, too.
And just think: not even three weeks ago, many were legitimately questioning Hurts as the Eagles' quarterback as wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith were growing more and more frustrated with his inability to deliver the ball consistently.
Now, to be fair, it's not like Hurts lit it up against the Giants. He went 15-for-20 with 179 yards. But the 27-year-old has never been a big yardage guy; he has simply made a habit of making enough plays to win games, which is why he has been able to lead Philadelphia to a pair of Super Bowl appearances and one championship.
There is still plenty of time remaining in the season for Hurts to continue building his MVP case, and as of right now, the numbers don't lie: Hurts is in the midst, and if the Eagles keep winning ball games, he will be among the favorites to win the award by year's end.
Philadelphia will have a bye next week before facing the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 10.
