The Philadelphia Eagles are strange, to say the least.

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, coughing up a 14-point fourth-quarter lead against the Denver Broncos.

After the game, there was, once again, a whole lot of chatter about the Eagles' passing game. Of course, A.J. Brown slowing down on a route — and blowing what would have been a touchdown pass in the process — was the center of attention, but DeVonta Smith also made some rather pointed comments about the receivers not being on the same page as Jalen Hurts.

Hurts said he didn't remember any of things that Smith referenced in his breakdown. Brown said the failed bomb between he and Hurts was "just a miss." This is all a recipe for disaster in Philadelphia.

Remember the funk the Eagles went through during the second half of 2023? This is starting to look very similar, and based on what we have seen the last couple of weeks, you would never know that Philadelphia was a defending Super Bowl champion that just had an 18-game winning streak.

It's becoming more and more obvious that Hurts' relationship with Brown is fractured, and perhaps he and Smith aren't exactly on the best footing, either. Is it possible that offensive coordinator Kellen Moore was what was keeping Hurts and his receivers together last season?

This is honestly the oddest defending Super Bowl champion I can remember. The Eagles are obscenely talented on both sides of the ball, and that's why they have managed to go 4-1 in spite of not playing particularly well over the first five weeks. But their loss to the Broncos showed that they can't keep up this facade forever.

Clearly, something is amiss. You can see it on the field and you can sense it in interviews, and it could ultimately sabotage their repeat quest.

Yes, it's still early in the season, but once these issues start to infiltrate a locker room, they are very difficult to eradicate. And if we are being honest, Philadelphia is probably lucky to be 4-1 right now. The team did not look dominant in any of its wins, and now, its two best pass-catchers are frustrated.

Let's also not overlook the fact that Philly tried to force feed the ball to Brown and Smith on Sunday, leading to Saquon Barkley getting just six carries.

We'll see if the Eagles can ultimately overcome this. They definitely have the talent to go on another Super Bowl run. But if we are being honest, the outlook isn't great right now.
