Every win on the road matters in the NFL, and the Jacksonville Jaguars got one on Sunday. But it took everything they had to win 30-29 in overtime over the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium.
When you win a game in overtime, every little thing matters. It helped that the Raiders missed an extra point after their first touchdown with just 35 seconds left in the second quarter. It mattered that Jags kicker Cam Little made an NFL-record 68-yard field goal at the halftime buzzer.
It mattered that Trevor Lawrence and the Jags matched the Raiders score for score in the second half, with Little's third field goal tying the game with 16 seconds left in regulation.
In OT, Lawrence led them on a six-minute TD drive, then they got a break when the Raiders scored and went for two and the win. The pass failed, and the Jags had a win, moving to 5-3 on the season and just 1.5 games behind the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts, who lost to Pittsburgh on Sunday.
It was a win that mattered, almost like a bonus that could have gone the other way.
Raiders Drop To 2-6 With OT Loss To Jaguars As Final Two-Point Attempt Fails
The Las Vegas Raiders dropped to 2-6 after a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 30-29, as quarterback Geno Smith’s potential game-winning, two-point conversion throw in overtime was blocked at the line of scrimmage by Jacksonville lineman Davon Hamilton.
Lawrence threw for 220 yards and the Jags also rushed for 151 yards, most of it coming in the second half. Lawrence wasn't feeling well, either, but found a way anyway.
“He was throwing up all night, all morning,” Jaguars first-year head coach Liam Coen told reporters after the game. “He was pale as a ghost throughout the whole game and, obviously started with the frustrating interception down on the goal line, but man I was very proud of the way he responded.
"The way that he played, especially later on, when the game really was on the line in critical third-down conversions. Had the draw that he walks in on, I mean he competed his tail off. Very proud of him."
