Shedeur Sanders showed a lot in his first NFL start last Sunday, a nice bounce-back from a failed relief appearance a week earlier.

And now, the Browns are pondering giving him a longer look with just six weeks to go in the season. Sanders was originally filling for fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, who went down with a concussion, and Gabriel was supposed to return to the starting lineup when he was healthy.

But now that Sanders is playing well, beating the Las Vegas Raiders last week, the Browns might want to see how it all plays out. They are 3-8 on the season with six games to go. They host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Here's the full story from Browns Roundtable writer Ashish Mathur.

Report: Browns Open to Giving Shedeur Sanders Extended Look as QB1 Report: Browns Open to Giving Shedeur Sanders Extended Look as QB1 This is huge news for the Cleveland Browns.

Sanders was thrown into the fire when Gabriel got hurt on Nov. 16 in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Sanders, who hasn't worked with the first team all year in practice, struggled in his NFL debut, completing just 4-of-16 passes.

The fifth-round pick got all the first-team reps the following week, though, and played well in the 24-10 win at Las Vegas. He was 11-of-20 passing for 209 yards and a score.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Sanders is said to have had another good week of practice, taking the starter's reps for the second time this season. The Browns play at home in four of the next five weeks, so Sanders might benefit from being in a more comfortable environment, too.

"Very committed to working at it, doing a great job, communicating with coaches, with the players," Browns coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Friday. "Good work week, but nothing different. I think any player, though, once you get one game under your belt, you got the next one coming. I think it can only help."
