Depleted rosters will hobble both the Jaguars and the Cardinals as Jacksonville looks to secure the No. 2 spot in the AFC South.

The biggest storyline ahead of Sunday afternoon's Jacksonville-Arizona matchup in Glendale is which team will have the advantage as both field injury-ravaged squads that will have to lean into their depth charts.

    • Spread favorite: Jaguars (-2.5)

The Jaguars (6-4) on Saturday released an injury report 17 players deep. Three players on offense will sit out, including WR Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle); TE Hunter Long (hip/knee); RT Anton Harrison (knee/ankle); along with LB Yasir Abdullah (finger) and DE Travon Walker, who left last week's game against the Chargers with a knee injury. Both defenders were kept out of practice all week.

Jacksonville's running back corps may be limited against the Cards, as both Travis Etienne (shoulder) and last week's breakout star Bhayshul Tuten (ankle) saw limited practice time this week and are listed among the Jags' Week 12 walking wounded. Listed as questionable are TE Brenton Strange (hip) and CBs Jarrian Jones (quad) and Jourdan Lewis (neck).

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence hasn't distinguished himself as a passer this season, as the Jags are averaging a middling 199 yards per game in the air – the 7th-worst in the NFL. Still, the team continues to have confidence in the 26-year-old, the first overall pick in the 2021 draft out of Clemson.

It's been their 8th-ranked running game that has been the driver in Jacksonville's recent offensive improvement. Factoring in Etienne's and Tuten's injuries, Jax fans might see some back-sliding from the backfield this week.

The home-team Cardinals (3-7) last won at home on Sept. 14 against the Carolina Panthers, and they're still reeling from both injuries and their acute problems under center. Thirteen players on Arizona's injured list this week: five are out for Week 12, while six are listed as questionable.

Running back Trey Benson, who was expected to return from IR this week, was ruled out after limited participation in practice. Fellow RB Emari Demercado (ankle) will also sit out Week 12.

Rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr., who missed Arizona's home loss versus the 49ers last week, remains sidelined for Week 12 after having appendix surgery on Nov. 10. The Cards' receiving corps was already decimated, with Simmi Fehoko placed on injured reserve, joining veteran Zay Jones whose season ended Nov. 9 with a torn Achilles in Arizona's loss to Seattle.

LB Baron Browning and safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson were also ruled out. Six players are listed as questionable, after limited practices.

QB Jacoby Brissett,  has been OK, not stellar, as the Cardinals' signal caller, after taking over for oft-injured starter Kyler Murray in Week 5.

The former No. 1 draft pick and 2019 Heisman winner suffered a foot injury in Arizona's Oct. 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Murray was placed on IR in Week 8 and is not eligible to return until after Week 14, though rumors recently began spreading about the possibility the Cards will trade him in the offseason.

Brissett, 32, who has bounced around after being drafted by the New England Patriots in 2016, is having to develop anew trust and relationships with his receivers -- too many of which have gone done with injury this season. He hopes his fledgling chemistry with WR Michael Wilson continues this week after the two hooked up for 15 catches and 185 yards in their Week 11 loss to San Francisco -- Wilson's best game by far since he was drafted three years ago.

Brissett, even with the Cards' receiver corps sidelined, last week set an NFL record with 47 completions on 57 attempts for 452 yards. It was the best day of his career.
