Week 2 was a disaster for the New York Jets.
Not only did they get blown out at home against the Buffalo Bills, but starting quarterback Justin Fields also suffered a concussion.
The Jets announced on Monday that Fields is in concussion protocol, which means he may not play in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Jets lost to the Bills by a final score of 30-10. Fields had the worst game of his NFL career, going just 3/10 for 27 yards.
While Fields did rush for 49 yards, he had a costly fumble.
Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor went 7/11 for 56 yards and a touchdown after taking over for Fields. Taylor will start against the Buccaneers if Fields doesn't clear concussion protocol.
Fields, who started six games (4-2) for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season before getting benched for Russell Wilson, shined in his Jets debut in Week 1 against his former team. The Ohio State product went 16/22 for 218 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
Fields began his NFL career with the Chicago Bears. He was the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract in the offseason after parting ways with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, who signed with the Steelers.
Fields has appeared in 52 games with the Bears, Steelers and Jets. He has thrown for 8,025 yards and 46 touchdowns and rushed for 2,606 yards and 21 touchdowns.
