Could the New York Jets make a quarterback trade this season?

One thing everyone can probably agree upon is that the New York Jets' franchise quarterback is probably not currently on their roster.

The Jets signed Justin Fields to a two-year deal in free agency, but he is now on his third NFL team since entering the league in 2021, and he has struggled with consistency throughout his career. There was even some debate as to whether or not he could potentially lose his starting job to Tyrod Taylor after last week, but Fields — who missed Week 3 due to a concussion — will be back under center this Monday against the Miami Dolphins.

New York is probably looking toward the 2026 NFL Draft to find its long-term answer under center, but it's also possible the Jets can find a solution via trade.

Josh Weil of Pro Football Network, for example, has connected Gang Green to a trade for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson, a former No. 4 overall pick who lost his starting job to Daniel Jones this year.

"Richardson showed flashes that he can be good in this league, and I really think with the right coaching/mentorship, and the humbling of earning a job, a trade could be the best thing for Richardson," Weil wrote. "He actually led the entire NFL in yards per completion last year, so if he can take less risks with the ball and learn more about how to break down an NFL defense, he could find a home."

There is no question that Richardson has talent. However, his throwing accuracy is a major problem. He completed just 47.7 percent of his passes last season, and through 15 games overall over his first couple of NFL campaigns, the University of Florida product owns a completion percentage of 50.6 percent.

Here's the thing, though: Richardson is still just 23 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to get himself right. It looks like his time with the Colts has expired, so a change of scenery is probably coming (especially if Jones continues to play the way he has). In that case, perhaps the Jets could make a push for the youngster?

Richardson has sky-high potential as a dynamic dual threat, and depending on the trade cost, New York may want to take a chance on him.
