Could the New York Jets actually pull off this wild trade with the New York Giants?

The New York Jets and New York Giants have both gotten off to 0-3 starts this season, although the teams have different problems in different areas.

The Jets, for example, don't really have an answer under center right now. At the very least, the Giants drafted Jaxson Dart and are having him make his debut this Sunday. Meanwhile, the Jets signed Justin Fields in free agency and are already considering benching him in favor of Tyrod Taylor.

Funny enough, the Giants have a couple of veteran quarterbacks of their own on their roster in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and with the former now having been sent to the pine in favor of Dart, he is now a pretty interesting trade candidate.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox goes as far to suggest that the Jets could potentially represent a landing spot for Wilson thanks to the cheap cost.

"Perhaps more importantly, Wilson's $2 million base salary would make him a reasonable target for virtually any team," Knox wrote. "That's why Wilson makes our list and Atlanta Falcons backup Kirk Cousins—who has a $27.5 million base salary—does not."

Wilson has thrown for 778 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 59.1 percent of his passes and posting a 78.5 passer rating thus far in 2025. The bulk of Wilson's positive numbers came in Week 2, when he racked up 450 yards and three touchdowns against a Dallas Cowboys defense that proceeded to surrender the best game of Caleb Williams' career the following week.

The truth is that Wilson is probably far closer to the 18-for-32, 160-yard performance he just posted against the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend.

So why would the Jets really want Wilson then? They already have Fields and Taylor to serve as stopgaps before they possibly select a quarterback in the NFL Draft next April. Do they really need to add another veteran into the mix?

There are some teams on which Wilson makes sense this season. The Cincinnati Bengals are a compelling destination, for example. The Jets? It just doesn't really add up, especially with Gang Green severely lacking wide receiver depth behind Garrett Wilson.
