The New York Jets have gotten off to a terrible start, but they have received a warning to not do a very certain something.

The New York Jets are 0-3 and do not even resemble playoff contenders this season. Not that anyone expected the Jets to contend for a postseason berth anyway, but it only seems like New York's season is already over.

As a result, some Jets fans are already looking toward the NFL Draft, especially with the 2026 class potentially rife with quarterback talent.

However, Michael Nania of Jets X-Factor has sent a stern warning to New York regarding the possibility of tanking for the No. 1 overall pick. Why? Because the Jets' schedule may be too easy for them to tank anyway.

"Among the games they have played through Week 3, the Jets’ SOS is a whopping .889, the toughest among the six winless teams," Nania wrote. "Their remaining SOS is .357, tied with New England for the weakest of any NFL team. This valuable context suggests that the Jets are not the actual favorites for the No. 1 pick, even though they are technically the current owners of it. They are on track for a better finish than the other winless teams, who have each faced an easier schedule thus far and will face a tougher schedule over the next 14 games."

Here is the question, though: what exactly would constitute as "tanking" for the Jets? It would be kind of hard for them to do that regardless. Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor are on pretty equal footing when it comes to skill at the quarterback position, so it's not like New York can bench Fields in the name of "tanking."

The Jets are just not good enough to win a whole lot of games. That's really what it boils down to. They don't have any depth behind Garrett Wilson at wide receiver. Their offensive line has question marks. Their defense seems to have lost its edge. And most importantly, they don't appear to have a clear answer under center.

Yes, New York does have a very manageable schedule the rest of the way, but that does not mean the Jets will suddenly go on a tear and end up pushing for a playoff spot. This roster just isn't good, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

Chances are, New York will be in the running for one of the top picks in the draft without trying.
