While I completely understand why the New York Jets will have to move on from multiple players over the next week or so, I also have some reluctance in trading all of their top guys.
For one, the Jets aren't winning football games, and until that changes, it might be better to have a full teardown. However, moving on from talented players when the team is clearly lacking talent won't help in the immediate or long term.
There seem to be a few players who almost feel guaranteed to be dealt, with Breece Hall being one of them.
The Jets moving on from Hall makes plenty of sense at this point, despite what I've said in the past about loving him as a player. I think Hall has had his struggles in recent years, but ultimately, he's still very good and can be a star elsewhere.
That's why I'm a bit upset to see him linked to the Los Angeles Chargers by USA Today, because I think if he goes into an offense with Justin Herbert and Jim Harbaugh, he might be one of the top running backs in the NFL.
“Chargers lead running back Omarion Hampton can't return until Week 10 at the earliest after Los Angeles placed him on injured reserve with an ankle injury. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that Hampton is expected to miss more time than that given the severity of the injury – perhaps in Week 13, after the Chargers' Week 12 bye?
“If that's the case, Los Angeles will need reinforcements in the backfield. Kimani Vidal had an excellent performance against a weak Dolphins run defense in Week 6 but came back to earth in Week 7. Hassan Haskins has only rushed 12 times all season,” Jack McKessy wrote.
Hall has had a decent season, but it's also tough to understand how good he might be on a contending team.
On the season, he's averaging 4.5 yards per carry, good for 448 yards and 99 attempts.
Unfortunately, he's yet to find the end zone.
In a better Los Angeles system with a much better quarterback, however, I'd expect those numbers to go way up.
