San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is getting close to returning to the starting lineup, but he's not quite there yet, according to coach Kyle Shanahan. His injured toe is still slowing him down too much to get back on the field.
Mac Jones, who's played well off the bench, will get another start on Sunday on a huge NFC West divisional showdown with the Los Angeles Rams. Game time is at 4:25 p.m. ET.
"It will be Mac again starting," Shanahan told reporters on Friday. "We haven't decided whether to make (Purdy) active or not, but he's further along this week than last week."
Purdy was a limited participant in practice all week, and there's a chance he could be active for the game as Jones' backup. If he doesn't play, this will be the eighth game he has missed this season.
Here's the story from 49ers Roundtable writer Savannah Tujague on who needs to step up offensively for San Francisco.
