The New York Giants have a made a significant quarterback decision heading into their Week 11 matchup with the Green Bay Packers, and it's one they should have made a while ago.
With Jaxson Dart in concussion protocol and his status up in the air for Sunday, the Giants have named Jameis Winston the No. 2 quarterback, meaning that Winston — not Russell Wilson — will start if Dart is unable to play, via ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
Considering how Giants fans mercilessly boo Wilson whenever he gets on the field (and that Wilson has looked cooked for most of the year), this is the right decision.
Winston has yet to throw a pass for New York and is certainly no longer a regular starter in this league, but it's worth a shot to give him a chance over Wilson, especially considering that Winston is capable of going nuclear (in a good way) on occasion thanks to his rocket arm.
Dart suffered his concussion during the Giants' loss to the Chicago Bears last weekend. New York then fired head coach Brian Daboll the very next day.

Mike Kafka has been installed as the interim head coach for now, but the Giants will almost certainly have a fresh face on the sideline in 2026.
Meanwhile, Winston has been a very positive figure in New York's locker room and has seemed to completely embrace the mentor role, so much so that there is already speculation that the former No. 1 overall pick will return as Dart's backup next season.
As for Wilson? Yes, he had a very strong performance against the Dallas Cowboys back in Week 2, but pretty much everyone has feasted on the Cowboys' defense this year.
Otherwise, Wilson has looked mostly dreadful, so it makes total sense for the Giants to demote him to third-string quarterback at this point.
Of course, based on the Giants' lack of weapons right now with Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo both out for the season, the quarterback position for Big Blue will be a challenge no matter who is under center, but at least Winston could potentially bring some excitement.
New York has lost four games in a row since going 2-1 over Dart's first three starts. The Giants have blown two late leads during that span and are now just 2-8 on the year.
To be perfectly honest, it would behoove the G-Men to lose out in order to land the top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft ... but tanking is taboo, so we won't talk about that, right?
