Matthew Schmidt and Dylan Feltovich of Giants Roundtable discuss New York's situation after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles and seeing Cam Skattebo go down with a season-ending injury.
The New York Giants not only suffered a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but they lost the heart and soul of their team in running back Cam Skattebo.
Skattebo suffered a gruesome dislocated ankle injury during the first half of the defeat, an injury that would require surgery later that night.
With Skattebo and wide receiver Malik Nabers now both done for the season, where do Jaxson Dart and the Giants go from here?
Matthew Schmidt and Dylan Feltovich discuss that and more in the second episode of the Giants' Roundtable podcast.
The topics are as follows:
How does Skattebo's injury affect the Giants as a whole? What does it mean for the offense? Skattebo was one of the most electrifying players on New York's roster this season and brought a on of energy to the squad. Can the Giants still find the juice to move forward with Skattebo sidelined? Will fellow running back Tyrone Tracy step up in Skattebo's stead?
What does Skattebo's injury mean for Jaxson Dart? The Giants were already short on weapons when Dart took over as the starting quarterback in Week 4. Then, Nabers suffered a torn ACL, and now, Skattebo is done for the year, too. Dart will certainly face tough sledding with both Nabers and Skattebo on the shelf, and the dearth of playmakers at his disposal could be very detrimental to his development. His play style will surely be affected, as well.
The Giants were gashed for 276 rushing yards against the Eagles on Sunday and rank 30th in the NFL in run defense. This has been an ongoing issue for New York for years now, and it's something that the front office continues to fail to address. Is this something that the Giants will actually focus on during the offseason? It's becoming a crushing problem for the franchise.
What moves can New York make at the trade deadline? Are there any players out there that can help Dart and Big Blue this season? Or will the Giants just punt to the offseason? And which players will the G-Men themselves shop around before Nov. 4? Did the Giants' loss to Philadelphia essentially seal Kayvon Thibodeaux's fate in the Big Apple?
The Giants will be facing the San Francisco 49ers in Week 9. Does New York stand a chance in this game? What should we expect to see from the Giants as they head back home? And how will Dart look after losing two games in a row?
All that and more in the latest episode of the Giants Roundtable Podcast.
