New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers will miss the remainder of the 2025 NFL campaign after tearing his ACL in the team's Week 4 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, leaving the Giants in quite a lurch when it comes to their offense.
New York lacked weaponry with Nabers on the field. Take him out of the lineup, and Big Blue is suddenly starving for offensive help, especially with Jaxson Dart now under center.
We will surely hear all sorts of rumors regarding the Giants pursuing wide outs between now and the November trade deadline, but Dan Duggan of The Athletic has linked New York to a familiar face: Isaiah Hodgins.
Hodgins spent two-and-a-half seasons in the Big Apple between 2022 and 2024 and actually had some productive moments for the Giants, particularly during his first year when he caught 33 passes for 351 yards and four touchdowns in eight games.
However, the 26-year-old faded over his final couple of seasons in New York to the point where he logged just two catches for three games in 2024.
Hodgins is currently serving on the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad, having just signed with the Steelers in the middle of the month. The fact that he has not been elevated to Pittsburgh's active roster with the Steelers themselves needing wide receiver depth is a bit concerning, but, at the very least, Hodgins knows the Giants' system.
New York could always find some better receivers on the trade market, but the problem is that the Giants may have to wait a few weeks before those players actually become available. The G-Men need answers now, and Hodgins would represent a viable short-term solution.
The Giants currently have Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton as their top options at the position with Nabers now sidelined. While both are solid players, neither is a No. 1 receiver, and a legitimate argument can be made that neither is a No. 2-caliber receiver, either. At least not on a contending team.
We'll see if New York is able to find a fix in the near future. The Giants will face the New Orleans Saints next Sunday.
