Clearly, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is not reaching his players.

Brian Daboll is absolutely in trouble as head coach of the New York Giants. The Giants have gotten off to an 0-3 start this season and have gone just 9-28 since 2023, and to be perfectly honest, most would say it's a miracle that Daboll has made it this long.

That 2022 campaign when Daboll led New York to a playoff appearance and a Wild Card Round win seems like more than a distant memory at this point, and it's becoming increasingly obvious that Daboll could be on his last legs in the Big Apple.

The 50-year-old is likely hoping that rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart can save him, which is surely part of the reason why Daboll decided to move away from Russell Wilson so quickly. Not that Wilson was playing well, but this is an awfully quick shift to Dart, especially given the schedule ahead. Heck, Dart will be facing a tough Los Angeles Chargers defense in his debut.

But the way Daboll went about the decision may have rubbed his players the wrong way. Why? Not because he benched Wilson in favor of Dart, but because he apparently did not inform the team that he was making the decision.

Multiple Giants players — Dexter Lawrence, Wan'Dale Robinson and Cam Skattebo, to name a few — have revealed that they found out via social media that Dart was named the starting quarterback. Daboll's explanation?

"Told those guys this is where we're going. This is the direction we're going," Daboll said. "Jaxson will be our starter. We can all do a better job, and we'll do everything we can to support him."

Okay, so Daboll did inform his players, but obviously, it was after the news already broke.

Now, to be fair, Daboll is the head coach. He does not have to consult with his players before making major decisions. He is also under no obligation to tell them when he is about to make a move. But given the fragility of Daboll's state with the Giants, you would think he would have at least said something before deciding to switch quarterbacks.

It just further speaks to the disconnect that has grown between Daboll and the squad. Wide receiver Malik Nabers had a sideline alteration with him during the season opener. Running back Tyrone Tracy criticized the play calling after Week 1. Lawrence is apparently growing more and more frustrated. It's one thing after another.

If Daboll had the cachet of, say, a Tom Coughlin, this wouldn't be as big of a deal. That entire locker room respected Coughlin. I'm not sure we can say the same about Daboll, and the way he handled this situation is just another example of how disjointed New York's locker room has become.
