Bryce Young might not be the Carolina Panthers' primary issue this season.

It's very easy to look at the Carolina Panthers and point to Bryce Young as the biggest reason why they are sitting at 1-3 and showing no improvement from last year. In fact, they have actually regressed from the way they were playing in the back half of 2024.

But while Young is certainly one of the issues plaguing the Panthers, he is not the only one, and he may not even be the most significant one.

Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon recently published a piece outlining the biggest problem for each NFL team through four weeks, and for Carolina, he zeroed in on the pass rush ... or lack thereof.

"The Panthers have just two sacks and eight quarterback pressures in four games, as a mix of replacement-level veterans and rookie Day 2 draft picks have failed to get it done," Gagnon wrote. "And it's not as though they are facing awesome offensive lines. This was a major problem last year and it isn't going away."

Carolina registered just 32 sacks last year and then proceeded to cut one of its top pass rushers in Jadeveon Clowney. Yes, the Panthers signed Patrick Jones II and Tershawn Wharton in free agency while also plucking Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielein in the NFL Draft, but those moves have not exactly helped their pass rush thus far.

The core of the problem is that the Panthers really don't have a No. 1 pass rusher. Perhaps one of Scourton or Umanmielen could step into that role at some point, but right now, Carolina is floundering in that regard, especially given how much of a disappointment D.J. Wonnum has been since arriving last year.

This is why many felt that the Panthers should have taken an edge rusher with their first-round draft pick back in April, although it's hard to fault Carolina for nabbing wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan (imagine where the offense would be without him?).

It's becoming increasingly obvious that the pass rush is an area that the Panthers will once again have to address next offseason, and potentially at the November trade deadline if some intriguing names hit the trade market.
