All signs point toward the Carolina Panthers missing the playoffs again this season. They are 1-3 and QB Bryce Young still looks like someone who hasn't quite figured the NFL game out.
With the Panthers still in rebuild mode, NFL.com's Kevin Patra believes the franchise needs to acquire draft assets at this year's trade deadline.
"The rebuild in Carolina continues to proceed in fits and starts. One week, the Panthers pitch a shutout; the next, they get 42 hung on them," Patra wrote. "The defensive front and linebacker corps are porous.
"Carolina also needs more young playmakers in the front seven. It seems way too early to move on from 2024 first-round pick Xavier Legette, but even when healthy, the receiver has struggled mightily (28.1 yards per game in his career so far)."
The Panthers need more young talent and the best way to acquire those players is via the draft.
Before the season started, Carolina traded WR Adam Thielen to the Minnesota Vikings for a 2026 5th-round pick and a 2027 4th-round pick
More trades like that need to happen for the Panthers so the franchise has future draft picks.
The only way for Carolina to get better is by drafting the best players from college football since star players aren't going to sign with the Panthers in free agency.
This will probably be Young's last season in Carolina unless he suddenly turns into a different player overnight. The former No. 1 overall pick has five passing touchdowns and three interceptions on the season while completing just 60.4% of his passes.
Young is 7-25-0 as a starter with the Panthers. He has 22 interceptions in 34 games.
