The Carolina Panthers are being pressed to change some things on offense.

The bad Carolina Panthers showed up this past Sunday, falling to the New England Patriots by a score of 42-13 one week after beating the Atlanta Falcons 30-0.

Pretty much nothing went right for the Panthers in Week 4, and if we are being honest, it's not like they looked amazing in their shutout win the week prior. While the defense played well against the Falcons, Bryce Young and the offense still labored.

Carolina's offense ranks 24th in the NFL, which is very disappointing considering that many expected Young to take a big step forward in 2025. That hasn't happened.

Joseph Person of The Athletic has offered a solution to help fix the offense, and it's actually pretty simple: give running back Chuba Hubbard the ball more.

"Speaking of [Rico] Dowdle, [Dave] Canales has been insistent on having him share carries with Hubbard in the hopes of keeping both backs fresh," Person wrote. "That’s nice in principle, but Hubbard is a power back who gets stronger as the game goes on and can wear down a defense. He’s not getting the chance to do so — in part because the Panthers keep getting behind early, but also because Canales will sub him out for Dowdle, who’s averaging 3.0 yards a carry and 4.0 yards a reception. Hubbard is averaging 4.1 yards per rush and 7.2 yards per catch."

If we are being honest, the Panthers' decision to sign Dowdle — who rushed for over 1,000 yards with the Dallas Cowboys last season — was always puzzling, especially considering they then went and selected Trevor Etienne in the NFL Draft.

Hubbard racked up 1,195 yards and 10 touchdowns on 4.8 yards per carry in 2024, also hauling in 43 receptions for 171 yards and a score. So why did Carolina feel it was necessary to go out and add another halfback in free agency?

Considering how ineffective Dowdle has been through the first four weeks, but it might be time for Canales to reduce Dowdle's workload and give the rock to Hubbard a bit more. Would that solve Young's problems? Probably not, but it would at least take some pressure off the young quarterback and potentially give the offense some more juice.
