As Monday Night Football grows closer, the question is which struggling unit will inch out victorious – a No. 31 ranked defense versus a No. 31 ranked offensive line.
As the Las Vegas prepare to host the Dallas Cowboys, a matchup should take the spotlight on Monday: Ashton Jeanty against a poor Cowboys defense as he searches for his breakout appearance as a rookie.
His start to the year hasn’t been as electric as anticipated following an incredible season at Boise State that saw the Broncos reach the College Football Playoff and saw Jeanty finish as a Heisman Finalist. He only has 100-yard rushing performance in his first nine contests.
That could change very easily against a struggling Dallas defense that sits second-worst in the league.
Here’s the complete story by Cowboys Roundtable writer Hayden Pustejovsky.
Cowboys vs. Ashton Jeanty: Will Rookie Back Up Big Words With Major Breakout?
Can Ashton Jeanty seize his moment against a porous Cowboys defense? Running backs have feasted; he aims for his breakout.
The Cowboys hope to see their recent trades pay off, acquiring linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.
Dallas hopes that will be enough to stifle Jeanty, but if recent history is indicative, that’s a big hope. They’ve seen running backs explode for career games against them in four of their last five contests.
Unfortunately, Jeanty will look to do so behind a pitiful offensive line. A player can be as talented as any, and if there’s no gaps to run through, it simply doesn’t matter. But perhaps this is the one opponent who will allow enough holes on their own for Jeanty to hope to break free.
