Alex Highsmith will have to watch from Pittsburgh on Sunday when the Steelers play the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park in Dublin in the first NFL regular-season game in Ireland.

Highsmith, as expected, has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Highsmith (ankle) was injured in the Steelers' loss to the Seattle Seahawks two weeks ago. He did not play last Sunday in a 21-14 victory over the New England Patriots.

However, linebackers Nick Herbig and Cole Holcomb returned to the starting lineup against the Patriots, and both forced fumbles as the Steelers had five takeaways. Herbig also had four quarterback hits, and Holcomb made six tackles.

Three Steelers are listed as questionable for Sunday's game: cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (hamstring), running back Jaylen Warren (knee), and tight end Jonnu Smith (hip).

Porter missed the last two games after starting in the season-opening win over the New York Jets.

Warren rushed for just 47 yards on 18 carries and had five receptions for 34 yards against the Patriots. Smith had three catches for 23 yards. Both were held out of practice on Friday.

Four Vikings will miss the game: quarterback J.J. McCarthy (ankle), linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (neck), guard Donovan Jackson (wrist), and tight end Ben Yurosek (knee).

Veteran Carson Wentz will start in McCarthy's place for a second straight week. In a 48-10 rout of the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday, Wentz completed 14 of 20 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

"He's a grisly veteran," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "Oftentimes, particularly when you have a young, inexperienced quarterback, there are some big-time benefits of playing with a vet backup. The veteran guy oftentimes does the intangible components of the job very well. They communicate and articulate the schematics and the plans to others. They uplift guys and get people lined up. They oftentimes are able to carry more schematic responsibility and so forth at the line of scrimmage.

"So, I don't necessarily view it as a negative thing for the Minnesota Vikings, at least in the short-term, that Carson is playing for them."
