Mike Tomlin will not overlook the veteran QB.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1) take on the Minnesota Vikings (2-1) in Week 4 in Ireland.

Pittsburgh's defense will face veteran quarterback Carson Wentz instead of J.J. McCarthy, who is out with an ankle injury.

During his weekly press conference with Steelers reporters, Mike Tomlin opened up about going against Wentz instead of McCarthy.

"He's a grizzly veteran," Tomlin said about Wentz. "Oftentimes, particularly when you have a young, inexperienced quarterback, there's some big-time benefits of playing with a vet backup. The veteran guy oftentimes does the intangible components of the job very well. ... They oftentimes are able to carry more schematic responsibility and so forth at the line of scrimmage.

"So, I don't necessarily view it as a negative thing for the Minnesota Vikings, at least in the short term, that Carson is playing for them."

Wentz played very well in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The former star quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles went 14 of 20 of 173 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings already have Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson. Now, they get Jordan Addison back.

"He certainly has a full repertoire of targets available to him," Tomlin said. "The return of Jordan Addison, I think, is significant. Certainly, Jefferson is a man to be reckoned with, good 50/50 ball guy, tough, good after the catch, as well. T.J. at the tight end is a challenge. So, Carson has a nice arsenal of people to throw the ball to."

The Steelers are giving up 25.7 points per game on the season, while the Vikings are averaging 27.0 points per contest.

For Pittsburgh to beat Minnesota in Ireland, Tomlin's defense will have to repeat what it did in Week 3 against the New England Patriots.

The Steelers forced five turnovers and allowed only 14 points in Week 3.
