The Miami Dolphins have been a mess for a couple of years now, and someone had to pay the price for that. According to reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter, that person is Dolphins general manager Chris Grier.
Grier met with Dolphins officials on Friday morning and have agreed to part ways. Champ Kelly will serve as the interim general manager.
“As I assessed the state of the team and in my discussions with Chris, it became clear to both of us that change could not wait,” Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement. “We must improve — in 2025, 2026 and beyond — and it needs to start right now.”
The Dolphins are 2-7 this year, with their only wins coming against the 1-7 New York Jets and the 3-4 Atlanta Falcons who were playing with a back-up quarterback. They were 8-9 last year and missed the playoffs.
Mike McDaniel, 42, is in his fourth year as the Dolphins' head coach. He went 9-8 and 11-6 in his first two years and made the playoffs, but lost in the wild-card game both years. Schefter tweeted moments ago that sources have told him McDaniel will be retained as coach for the remainder of the season.
