The summer transfer window has been a successful one for Chelsea as they signed the likes of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Dario Essugo and Alejandro Garnacho in order to bolster their side for the upcoming season and the Club World Cup win in the States has been the perfect return for their investments during the transfer window.

Despite all the sensational transfers, the Blues failed to bring in a replacement for their long struggling goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as they had the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Emi Martinez available but decided to wait for a player whom the club management feels as the perfect keeper to protect the Chelsea goal.

According to multiple sources, the Blues already had an agreement with Mike Maignan of AC Milan but the transfer did not materialize as Chelsea failed to reach an agreement with the Italian side.

As reported by TBR Football, Maignan has decided not to extend his contract with Milan as of now and wait for the Blues for the time being. Chelsea would most likely make an attempt to sign the 30-year-old keeper during the winter transfer window although they would have a chance to sign Maignan for free in 2026 when his contract runs out with Milan.

If the Blues can get the Frenchman on a free transfer it could well turn out to be one of the most successful signings for the club as he perfectly fits the profile of a modern goalkeeper who is also good with the ball on his feet along with fantastic reflexes.

It is to be seen whether the arrival of new AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri can change the mind of Maignan into signing a new contract with the Rossoneri as Allegri himself admitted that Maignan staying at the club was one of the reasons he accepted the role of the Milan manager in the first place and only time will tell if Chelsea would be able to sign the goalkeeper or not.
