In four days and after two highly successful away matches, Paris Saint-Germain has reclaimed its position as the European champion and now leads both the Champions League and Ligue 1.
Some weeks are more fruitful than others, and PSG just had a particularly useful one, even with two challenging away fixtures to start.
But in both the Champions League and Ligue 1, Paris more than took care of business and ideally moved back into first place in both competitions just one matchday after losing the top spot.
In the Champions League, the decisive victory at Leverkusen gave PSG nine points in three matches, a total shared by five clubs.
However, the seven goals scored in Germany by Luis Enrique's team gave them the edge over the other four teams on nine points due to a superior goal difference of +10 after only three matches. Bayern Munich matched that, but PSG scored one more goal, 13 to 12, and therefore leads the group.
In Ligue 1, a draw with Strasbourg (3-3) in the eighth round had forced Paris to cede first place to Olympique de Marseille, a minor event that was predictably celebrated in a city known for its rivalry.
A week later, Paris is back on top of Ligue 1 thanks to its win at Brest (3-0), while Marseille was relegated to third place in the standings after its loss at Lens (1-2).
RC Lens moved ahead of Marseille in the process. In four days, Paris secured two wins and Marseille suffered two losses. At the top of Ligue 1, PSG now holds a one-point lead over Lens and a two-point lead over Marseille and Lyon, who are separated by goal difference (+13 to +4).
PSG will have a good chance to widen the gap in the next round: Paris will play at Lorient (16th) while Lens plays at Metz. Marseille will host Angers, and Lyon will travel to face Paris FC.
