A dramatic late winner propels PSG back to the summit, extending their lead over chasing rivals in a thrilling Ligue 1 showdown.

The 12th matchday of Ligue 1 was once again favorable to Paris Saint-Germain as the last-gasp victory secured against Lyon allowed PSG to recover its first place, lost the day before, and create a slightly larger gap in the standings with several teams from the top of the table.

Put under pressure by Marseille and Lens, which won on Saturday (3-0 against Brest and 4-1 at Monaco, respectively), Paris Saint-Germain earned three precious points Sunday night in Lyon and recovered its first place in Ligue 1.

As was the case a week ago, PSG leads the standings with a two-point advantage over its pursuers from Marseille and Lens.

But this 12th matchday allowed PSG to widen the gap with several teams from the top of the table, starting with Lyon, but also Monaco, which was dealt a heavy defeat by Lens, as well as Lille, which lost 2-0 Sunday at Strasbourg. PSG has a five-point lead over the Alsatian side, in fourth, and a seven-point lead over the trio of Lille, Monaco, and Lyon.

In terms of goal difference, PSG has the second best in the league (plus-13) behind Marseille (plus-17). It also has the best defense (11 goals conceded), tied with Marseille and Lens, and the second-best offense (24 goals), tied with Strasbourg and Monaco.

The league standings after the 12th matchday show Paris Saint-Germain in first with 27 points.

Following the international break, PSG (first) will host Le Havre (12th) at Parc des Princes, while Marseille (second) will travel to Nice (ninth), and Lens (third) will host Strasbourg (fourth). Monaco (sixth) will travel to Rennes (eighth).
