No one in rodeo has had a bigger week than Statler Wright. The youngest of the talented Wright brothers became a first time dad on September 19, when he and fiancée, Jaden, welcomed their first child into the world — a baby girl named Kodi Kate.
Just days later, that little girl got her first taste of rodeo when Statler competed at the Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There he made an 87.25-point ride aboard Harper & Morgan Rodeo Company’s standout bronc, Peacemaker. He came out on top of round 1, winning over $11,000. Statler proudly placed the buckle on his newborn daughter’s lap, the first of many for that little girl, born into a family of champions.
Last year was Statler's debut year in Vegas where he got a round win, and ended the season 8th in the world. Statler headed to Sioux Falls already eighth in the world standings this year with more than $181,000 won this season. The Governor’s Cup will only add to his momentum as he prepares for his second NFR in Las Vegas this December.
The Governor’s Cup is no ordinary rodeo. Held at the end of the regular season, it often decides who gets a ticket to Las Vegas. Statler had already solidified his NFR spot, but that first round win topped off already an incredible week for the young cowboy.
Of course, Statler isn’t the only Wright making headlines. His older brother, Ryder Wright, remains the No. 1 saddle bronc rider in the world with more than $285,000 earned. Another brother, Stetson Wright, sits 11th in the saddle bronc standings but holds down the top spot in both bull riding and the all-around standings. The oldest of the brothers, Rusty, will finish inside the top 30 this season.
The family talent doesn’t stop with the brothers. Their younger sister, Lily Wright, also had a standout week. The 16-year-old cowgirl competed at the Xtreme Million Nampa Event, where she walked away with nearly $34,000 in winnings along with an armful of prizes. Running barrel horses owned by her brother Stetson, Lily was named the athlete of the event.
Much of their success traces back to dad, Cody Wright, two-time PRCA Saddle Bronc World Champion. Over the years, the Wright name has become synonymous with bucking horses and gold buckles, Fan can almost always expect to see at least one member of the family in the winner’s circle.
While Statler continues to chase gold buckles and big scores, his proudest role will be raising his newborn daughter with the same values and experiences that shaped him. For the Wrights, winning is measured in both titles and the way they carry their family name forward, generation after generation. With another now in the stands, it’s clear the Wright legacy isn’t slowing down anytime soon. For the youngest Wright brother, he has already proven himself in the arena, but it’s clear that now his biggest prize is waiting for him at home.
