Dylan Hancock’s 2025 season has been strong from the start, but his performance at the Pendleton Round-Up added greatly to his growing list of accomplishments this year. The Texas cowboy left Oregon with both the tie-down roping title and the coveted All-Around title, banking $19,154 in the process. He won the tie-down average and, alongside his partner Cole Clemons, finished fifth in the team roping average as well.
Pendleton’s grass arena is one of the most iconic and challenging settings in rodeo, a complete contrast to the tight set up of the Thomas & Mack. Hancock’s ability to excel on the grass in both tie-down and team roping goes to show his versatility and consistency. It’s the same qualities he showed in his Wrangler NFR debut last year, where he adapted seamlessly to the pressure of Las Vegas, placing in five rounds and winning both Round 7 and Round 10 on his way to finishing sixth in the world. Last year clearly fueled him heading into 2025, and he’s proven he can deliver results no matter the stage or setup all year since.
Pendleton is just one stop in what has already been an outstanding year. Hancock has taken many major tie-down roping wins at the California Rodeo Salinas, the Crooked River Roundup in Prineville, and the Sisters Rodeo. It’s worth noting that Dylan also dominated in Salinas, with its long score and unique setup. Those wins, along with consistent placings throughout the season, have him sitting fifth in the PRCA World Standings and well on his way back to Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, his Pendleton team roping partner Clemons, who won Rookie of the Year last season and also made his first NFR in tie-down roping, is currently battling for another chance at Vegas, currently sitting 15th in the world.
For Hancock, though, the focus is pretty black and white. With the NFR guaranteed and the top within striking distance, he’s in position to not just return to Las Vegas, but to rope for a gold buckle too.
