With the 2025 season coming to a close, a lot of eyes are on the tie-down roping standings. All year, the most talented guys in the sport have been battling it out for those top 15 spots. With about a week left of the season, it may come down to a one-header for the final spot to Vegas.
Right now, no one is feeling the tension more than Tom Crouse and Quade Hiatt who sit in the 15th and 16th spots right now with only $800 separating them. A year ago, Hiatt finished 12th in the world and backed it up with a strong showing at the NFR, racking up nearly $100,000 in earnings on rodeo’s biggest stage. Last season, Crouse finished inside the top 30, which got him into the larger rodeos in 2025 that rocketed him into the standings this year.
It is safe to say that the top half of the field has little left to worry about. Big names like Riley Webb, Shad Mayfield, Marty Yates, or Kincade Henry have earned enough throughout the season to guarantee their place in Las Vegas. Their focus now shifts from qualifying to chasing a gold buckle.
Sitting in the middle of the standings around 9th through 12th are a handful of cowboys who aren’t yet mathematically locked in, but it would take a major shakeup at Mandan to bump them out. Still, stranger things have happened in rodeo, and every one of these cowboys will be nodding their heads with purpose until the final calf is tied.
The Rough Rider Cup is not only North Dakota’s richest rodeo but also one of the most influential stops all year. Taking place just before the final cutoff for the NFR, it has become the place where seasons are made or broken. For bubble cowboys like Crouse and Hiatt, every dollar won in Mandan could be the difference between heading to Las Vegas or heading home. This is the case for many events right now. It is a knife fight until the end again in 2025.
Riley Webb is sitting comfortably at the top after breaking a regular season earnings record this year. He has over $289,000 won. Shad Mayfield is sitting in second with over $240,000.
The number 3 tie-down roper in the world right now, Riley Pruitt is safe to say he has qualified for his third National Finals Rodeo and is in contention for the gold buckle. He has nearly $153,000 won.
Many more unique stories have emerged in this year's tie-roping. After a serious injury, Haven Meged was forced to sit out during some crucial busy July weeks. However, the world champion returned stronger than ever and is sitting 12th with over $124,000. His spot isn’t yet secure, but he could be the comeback story of the year in the tie-down roping.
The regular season ends September 30, then the list will be final with 15 cowboys heading to the Thomas & Mack in December, and the rest left waiting another year.
