Malonga joins Unrivaled after a European contract dispute. The WNBA's youngest star finds a new 3-on-3 stage amidst legal battles.

Dominique Malonga’s whirlwind offseason took another turn Thursday as the 19-year-old French center joined Unrivaled for the 2026 season, less than two weeks after her abrupt departure from Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe.

Malonga, the No. 2 overall pick by the Seattle Storm in the 2025 WNBA Draft, became one of the latest additions to the growing 3-on-3 league, which begins play Jan. 5. She joins a second-year Unrivaled roster headlined by Paige Bueckers, Kelsey Plum, and Kelsey Mitchell, as the league continues to expand its player base and fan reach.

The 6-foot-6 forward-center averaged 7.7 points on 55% shooting and 4.6 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game during her rookie season with Seattle, earning All-Rookie Team honors while emerging as the WNBA’s youngest player in 2025.

Her move to Unrivaled follows controversy in Europe. On Oct. 21, Fenerbahçe announced that Malonga had “unilaterally terminated her professional player contract … without any just cause.” The club vowed to “exercise all our legal rights to seek compensation for any material and moral damages incurred.”

Fenerbahçe’s statement cast uncertainty over Malonga’s eligibility to play internationally, given that the WNBA and FIBA require a formal “letter of clearance” before players can compete in multiple leagues. The letter confirms that a player has fulfilled all contractual obligations and is free to sign elsewhere. While the Turkish club has not yet provided such clearance, sources told ESPN that Malonga does not need one to compete in Unrivaled.

Her participation in the 3-on-3 league offers a new platform for one of Europe’s top young prospects, whose combination of length, athleticism, and rim protection made her a breakout talent in Seattle’s frontcourt rotation. It also represents a new chapter for the Unrivaled brand, which is broadening its reach with high-profile signings and an expanded slate of games.

Unrivaled also confirmed Thursday that Aari McDonald and Rebecca Allen will join the league for its second season. The pair completes a 19-player roster that includes newcomers such as Bueckers, Plum, Veronica Burton, Saniya Rivers, Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen, and Mitchell. DiJonai Carrington was forced to withdraw as she recovers from a significant left midfoot sprain.

Malonga’s future in the WNBA remains dependent on whether she receives clearance from the Turkish federation via Fenerbahçe, a process that could determine her availability for the Storm in 2026. For now, her attention turns to Unrivaled, where she will play among some of the sport’s biggest stars — and where the spotlight on one of basketball’s brightest young talents only grows larger.
