The Pittsburgh Steelers were favored to beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7 on Thursday Night Football, but Mike Tomlin's team suffered a bad loss, losing by a final score of 33-31.
The Steelers' defense gave up 33 points to Joe Flacco and Co. Flacco was playing in just his second game with the Bengals.
Pittsburgh QB Aaron Rodgers went 23/34 through the air for 249 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. He made NFL history, passing Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger for fifth in all-time passing yards.
Rodgers now has 64,222 passing yards in his career with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Steelers. The future Hall of Famer, though, was upset he didn't get the win.
"We want to win every game," Rodgers said after the game. "There needs to be an expectation of winning. But this is a short week, division opponent, anything can happen. Obviously, Joe played really well for them and (Ja'Marr) Chase and Tee (Higgins) got going for them.
"This is the NFL. We had a chance to really open up some space, but we're 4-2, still first in the division. Got a couple home games coming up back-to-back. Another Sunday night opportunity against my former team (Green Bay)."
Rodgers has 1,270 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season. He's completing 68.6% of his passes.
The Steelers dropped to 4-2 on the season after losing to the Bengals. They face Rodgers' old team, the Packers, next week on Sunday Night Football.
"I'm not going to ride the roller coaster, and I know Mike (Tomlin) isn't, and hopefully guys follow suit," Rodgers said.
The Steelers' run defense was nonexistent against the Bengals. They also couldn't stop Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, who combined for 257 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
"We play these guys a bunch," Tomlin said. "We double-teamed them some, we double-teamed No. 5 (Tee Higgins) some, had some mixes when required. They've got depth and talent. Just like the one play No. 80 (Andrei Iosivas) made down the middle, we were doubling them both (Chase and Higgins), and so they were one-on-one in that circumstance.
"There's many ways you can analyze it, but the bottom line is they made more plays than we did."
The Steelers haven't lost two games in a row this season. Let's see if that continues against the Packers.
