What will the Pittsburgh Steelers do at wide receiver?
Everyone knows that the Pittsburgh Steelers need another wide receiver, so the general consensus has been that they will try and add one before the NFL trade deadline.
Dianna Russini of The Athletic has provided an update on the Steelers' wide receiver search, noting that the club has made a push for Las Vegas Raiders star Jakobi Meyers.
"The Raiders have fielded calls from the Steelers and Bills on WR Jakobi Meyers, but Las Vegas has set a high price. Pittsburgh is looking at other wide receiver options, too," Russini wrote.
Considering that Meyers is slated to hit free agency at year's end, the Steelers — who already surrendered a second-round pick for D.K. Metcalf during the offseason — will surely be cautious in terms of what they are willing to surrender for the 29-year-old.
Meyers has logged 29 catches for 329 yards in six games this season and has made it abundantly clear that he would have no problem leaving the Raiders.
Before the 2025 campaign began, Meyers wanted a new contract, but Las Vegas declined to provide him with one, essentially putting the writing on the wall for Meyers' future in the desert.
The North Carolina State product entered the league as an undrafted rookie with the New England Patriots back in 2019 and spent four years with the Patriots, posting over 800 yards receiving in each of his final two seasons with the club.
Meyers then signed with the Raiders in 2023 and proceeded to post the first 1,000-yard campaign of his career last year.
Should Pittsburgh fail to strike a deal for Meyers, it could turn to other cheaper options such as New Orleans Saints receiver Rashid Shaheed. Shaheed is also in the final year of his deal, but surely would not cost the Steelers as much as Meyers. He probably could be had for a Day 3 pick.
Pittsburgh actually needs to make a couple of moves before next Tuesday. Not only do the Steelers need a wide out, but they also need to shore up their defense, which ranks 30th in the NFL and has allowed over 30 points in back-to-back games.
Pittsburgh's schedule isn't getting any easier, either, starting with the 7-1 Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon.
