Wilson had a breakout game and was one of the few positives for the Steelers in their 35-25 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Acrisure Stadium. He had four receptions for 74 yards and his first career touchdown, though the Steelers lost their second straight game to fall to 4-3.
Last season, Wilson appeared in only one game and had no catches. He was sidelined for most of the year by ankle and hamstring injuries.
Wilson had just four receptions for 36 yards before Sunday night. However, he was targeted five times, caught a 21-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, and had a play that covered 45 yards.
Playing time for Wilson has been less than anticipated after he was drafted in the third round in 2024 from Michigan. He helped lead the Wolverines to the national championship with 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns.
However, Wilson has bided his time since being drafted. He has learned the importance of staying patient and engaged while only getting a few snaps.
"Just working hard and really listening," Wilson said. "Showing up at practice and proving myself. Just staying focused, I think that's the biggest thing. Making sure I'm where I'm supposed to be at, making sure that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. So, if you prepare to succeed, then obviously it's going to work out for you."
Wilson believes he has built a good rapport with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The 21-year veteran is showing increasing confidence in Wilson, as evidenced by what happened on Sunday night.
Wilson was happy to have the best game of his nascent career. However, the Steelers never got the ball back after Wilson's touchdown catch with 2:07 left drew them within 10 points, and their lead in the AFC North shrank to ½ game over the Cincinnati Bengals (4-4).
The task is no easier this week as the Steelers host the Indianapolis Colts (7-1), who have the best record in the NFL, on Sunday.
"I was more focused on winning the game and looking more forward to my next game," Wilson said about his thoughts on his first career TD.
